Australian Lunar III 2022 “Year of the Tiger”, 1 oz Silver
Australia’s oldest operating mint has once again captured investor’s attention with their newest release, the 2022 1 oz Year of the Tiger Silver Coin. Although this is only the third coin in the Series III edition, the Lunar Series has been popular among investors for many years. The Lunar Series I program was introduced by the Perth Mint in 1996, followed by the Lunar Series II collection in 2008, and the most recent collection, the Lunar Series III collection, was released in 2020. Every year the coins sell out, so do not wait to purchase the 2022 1 oz Year of the Tiger Silver Coin from SD Bullion!
Each year, the Lunar Series portrays a specific animal that correlates to the year on the Chinese Calendar. 2022 marks the Year of the Tiger and those born under 2022, 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974 and every 12th preceding year are said to have the qualities of a Tiger: bravery, determination, courage, and confidence.
The internationally successful series offers coins in silver, gold, and platinum and in sizes ranging from 1/20 oz to as large as a 10 Kilo coin. In the 2022 Year of the Tiger Silver coin, customers can purchase the coin from SD Bullion in the following sizes: ½, 1, 2, and 5 ounces, and 1 Kilo coins. The one-ounce coin is struck with a limited worldwide mintage of just 300,000 coins. Additionally, each coin is struck with .9999 fine silver, a contributing factor to the popularity of Perth Mint products.
The reverse face features an adorable tiger cub following closely behind its proud parent as they bravely prowl a rocky terrain. The coin depicts bamboo trees and fern plants among the tigers. Above the animals, the Chinese symbol for Tiger is depicted with the inscription “TIGER 2022” beneath. Lastly, the Perth Mint’s classic “P” mintmark is found on the leftmost side of the coin.
The obverse features Jody Clark’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The words “ELIZABETH II,” “AUSTRALIA,” “1 OZ 9999 AG,” and the face value of “1 DOLLAR” all surround the effigy. Each coin is shipped in a protective plastic capsule.
